What could be more romantic than a beautiful wedding in front of the Flatiron Mountains in Colorado and bride & groom performing the act of marriage themselves without any officiant???
Yes you read this correctly. In Colorado you can perform your wedding yourself and sign the marriage license without officiant. This is called self-solomnization. When we first spoke to our bride and groom we could not really imagine how a ceremony without officiant would play out… Who will say the popular phrases “…I pronounce you to be husband & wife. You may now kiss your bride.”???
Katherine & Brian have been dating for a few years, lived their dream in Hawaii, and then came back to settle down in Boulder Colorado (for now). They both love the outdoors, are musicians, dancers, love adventures and live every day to the fullest. We were super excited when they asked Douglas & me to be their wedding photographers.
One of the most difficult parts of being a wedding photographer is to ensure there is enough time for bride & groom portraits without taking away important time that the newlyweds want to spend with their family & friends during the reception. Having enough time for their pictures was absolutely important to Katherine & Brian, as for most couples… Together we planned an early start for sunrise pictures in order to give us enough time for bright & dreamy pictures in front of the mountains without being blown out by the mid-day sunlight.
We got up at 3 am, packed all our camera gear and drove to the bottom of the Flatiron Mountains. From there we hiked up a little hill from where we could overlook the entire city and horizon where the sun was rising. We will never forget this beautiful pink & purple glare in some picture-perfect clouds that morning… The photos speak for themselves.
After our first part of the session, we climbed back down to get more intimate pictures of our bride & groom with the beautiful mountains in the background.
The early portrait session was followed by a Mimosa & Pastries Welcome for all guests at the beautiful Chautauqua Dining Hall.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful Chautauqua Park with view on the Flatirons. The sun was super bright & high in the sky, but that did not disturb the beautiful ceremony and our capability of taking pictures. Every single word of the ceremony was thoughtfully put together by Brian & Katherine. Even their parents and siblings had their own lines for the ceremony and I don’t think I would lie by saying that probably every guest was moved to tears…
After the ceremony, a fun brunch & omelette bar was waiting inside of the Dining Hall, where all guests were eating, drinking, and celebrating the newlyweds. Every table had it’s own little, personalized game or task for the couples years to come. A polaroid camera brought lots of joy & laughter, while old & young was just having a great time.
We enjoyed all the cute, self-made and super unique details of the wedding day, that the couple had put together! I hope our images can tell their story and show all the emotions throughout their wedding day!!!
Luisa & Douglas
“Luisa and Douglas are a complete joy to work with! Leading up to the big day, Luisa was in constant communication with me to help plan out exactly how everything would work out. The day of, they woke up at the crack of dawn to shoot sunrise pictures for our wedding day – and they turned out incredible! During the shoot, both Luisa and Douglas made us feel at ease, and captured the most beautiful and intimate moments between us. The level of professionalism they carry while keeping the mood light and joyful cannot be matched. I could not be more pleased with everything they’ve done for us, and I’m still having a hard time narrowing down all my favorites! I extend so much gratitude for this husband-and-wife power couple – thank you for capturing such beautiful memories of our special day!!”
