It is every girls dream to one day meet and fall in love with the love of her life! And when it happens, a love story is written. One of our favorite things of being wedding photographers is leaning how our couples met and fell in love. Each story is so unique and special, and helps us serve them in the best way possible! And now it is time to share our story with you. We want to share everything, from how we met in Las Vegas, to getting married, not just once, but twice, and everything in between!!!
After three long months. An exhausting fourteen-hour flight. Never ending lines at passport control and baggage claims. And there he was. Waiting. Smiling at me. Melting my heart all over again. I fell into his arms. Leaning my head on his shoulder. Tears running down my cheeks. And all the time of being apart was all of the sudden forgotten and seemed so far away!
My nose was red. From the cold breeze. Little street lights glowing. During a dark winter night. His warm hand was holding mine. I snuggled in closer. In his arms. While sitting on a bench. Waiting. But what for? From day one Douglas has always loved surprising me. And this was one of those times. One I will never forget. Christmas bells started ringing. In the distance. I heard footsteps. And lights heading our way. Then. My heart stopped. A horse. No, two horses. Pulling the most romantic carriage. I looked at Douglas. Back at the horse. Douglas got up from the bench stretching out his hand: “May I?”. Carefully helping me into the carriage. Covering me in a warm cozy blanket. Opening his bag. He pulled out two glasses. And a bottle of red wine while just smiling at me. Making me feel like a Disney princess. There we were. On our first official date. A carriage ride. Through one of the most beautiful neighborhoods. Filled with Christmas lights. Just like I had seen in the movies. We talked and laughed, while enjoying the lights and wine together. As if we had never been apart.
The room slowly filled with sunlight. I could barely open my eyes. Was this all a dream? I looked to my left. And there he was. Sleeping soundly. So handsome. It was not dream. This. Was. reality. I woke up next to the love of my life, for the first time. And it was Christmas Day! We put on some robes. Walked to his Christmas tree. Well, it was not much of a tree, but we pretended. My heart started racing. As I handed him a little gift. We are not really into buying gifts for each other. For us the biggest gift is to be together. To create experiences and make memories. Together. But this was different and very special to me. Little did I know this gift would one day, bring us closer to becoming husband and wife.
Carefully removing the wrapping paper. The first thing he noticed, was my little note. Unfolding the letter. His eyes following my words. My eyes watching him. Tears started running down his face. As he read my words. Words that we shared through many video calls. But never in person. “I won’t give up”. We both started crying. Falling into each other’s arms. And for the first time. I would hear him whisper in my ear: “I love you Luisa!”. I began shaking. My heart beating out of my chest. “Ich liebe dich Douglas!”
Then he noticed the little gift hiding below my letter. A love lock. While looking at the engravings his face lit up. The date we met. That changed our lives forever. A symbol of our commitment. To love each other unconditionally. To never give up!
